I dropped you off at school today.
You looked so clean and new.
Your trousers grey, your t-shirt white,
Your jumper navy blue.
With one hand on your bookbag
And the other clasped in mine,
You headed for the courtyard
And you waited there in line.
The classroom door was opened,
It was time to say goodbye.
I braced myself for tears to come,
Expecting you to cry.
But with a sigh you hesitated
Then you stepped inside.
Your courage and maturity
Consumed my heart with pride.
I stood a while, a little lost
Just contemplating you:
The little boy who changed my life
Whose life's now changing too.
